Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book a lesson/ ask a further question?
Use the online enquiry form to make an enquiry and I can send you a list of available slots.

How much and how long is a lesson?
Lessons are 30 minutes long, and the price of an individual lesson is £14.  Please see my payment policy.

How much is a block of 6 lessons?
£78 or £13 per lesson, saving just over 10%.

Do you do gift vouchers for lessons which I can present as a gift?
Yes I do, and this has worked well in the past.  Please contact me and I can send you a pdf which can be printed and placed inside a card.  Payment for the lessons can be by cheque and post, or direct bank transfer.

Where are lessons held?
At Drumbank Music School just off Gloucester Road in Bristol – here is a map, and the address is 4 Sommerville Road.

When are lessons held?
I teach from Monday to Wednesday only, from the early afternoon until 9pm.

What do I need to bring to the lesson?
Just your guitar and whatever materials I have given to you – I have amps, leads and a music stand in the room.  If you by chance need to borrow a guitar for a lesson I also have spares.

Do you do trial lessons?
No.

Do you come to me or I do I come to you?
You come to me.

What dates do you teach?
I occasionally have to go on tour – and I post my tour dates here well in advance.  Otherwise I teach all through the year apart from Christmas.

Are lessons one-to-one or in classes?
I only teach one-to-one lessons.  I am interested in teaching to classes however, so please contact me to let me know if it’s something you’d like to do.

Do I have to commit to a certain number of lessons?
No, but if you wish to keep your slot open you will need to pay for it.  Demand for places is high – please see my payment policy.

How are lessons structured?
I teach all beginners using a well thought out, fun, and comprehensive syllabus so that they can get to a certain standard of competence and confidence, and be able to keep good rhythm, understand basic music theory, and play with others.  Once this basic competence is achieved in the most efficient manner, we have a lot of freedom to look at music and styles that interest the student.  Please go here for my syllabuses and list of courses.

Can you help me learn specific pieces of music for a concert/ gig?
Yes.

Do you teach absolute beginners?
Yes.

Can you advise me on buying a first guitar?
Yes.

Do you teach advanced styles?
Yes, please contact me if you have a request.  If it’s a very particular style and I am not the best person to teach you I will be honest and can probably recommend another teacher who would suit your requirements.
